# bitGAN Act 1 Puzzle — Handoff Brief (2026-08-26)

**For a fresh session.** Point the new chat at this file first, then `theories/` and the two Desktop spreadsheets. Work in `/Users/michaelconnery/Desktop/bitgan_puzzle_work/`.

## THE GOAL
Recover the 12-word BIP-39 seed phrase that opens wallet **0x18f87ec9c527aba1db44f715456bf28b0dae478d** (holds bitGAN #445). The clue: **"The seed phrase is 11 glitches ending with a random word."** So: 11 glitch-derived words + 1 random 12th (swept over the 128 checksum-valid endings). Pindar Van Arman said people are **"looking for glitches all wrong"** and it's **"hard even knowing how to solve it."**

## HARD RULES (non-negotiable)
1. **Order = MINT ORDER.** Both of Pindar's previously-solved seed puzzles state "use the minting order." (For pieces 1–444, mint order = GAN-number order = alphabetical-essence order — they coincide; Review breaks it.)
2. **Every sweep is plant-validated.** A negative is only trusted if the embedded plant seed is recovered in the run. Harness: `qbuild.build(dir, tasks)` + `qrun.py dir N` workers. A true hit writes `RECOVERED_HITS.txt` (does not exist = no hit ever). Plant address 0x9310…39d2; only the plant is written to worker logs, never the prize.
3. **Never dispatch paid story generations / no autonomous wallet claims.** Analysis and local sweeps are free; ask before anything with external cost.
4. **Registry is advisory, not authority.** `theories/_registry.json` (81,662) + `theories/novelty_authority.json` (swept_delta + parked). It's incomplete — a "hit" means de-prioritize, NEVER skip. Re-sweep every candidate (plant makes it cheap). See `theories/REGISTRY_POLICY.md`. NEVER mark a generated-but-unswept set as "tested."

## THE METHOD (the collector's core directive)
Think **creatively, non-linearly, multi-step** across the WHOLE dataset. The signature move: **find one-offs that seem individual but actually form a class** (this cracked several classes today). Look for pairs, triples, opposites, self-reference, cross-drop identity.

**PRIORITY TIERS for what counts as a glitch:**
- **TIER 1 (build from these first):** VISUAL glitches (splice, negative-frame, color anomaly, misplaced/wrong-drop identity, eye-mismatch, color-flash), pieces that BREAK THEIR DROP'S THEME, and glitches VISIBLE IN THE OPENSEA NAME (typos, leet, case, corrupted chain names, radix). "Looking all wrong" = things a person SEES on OpenSea.
- **TIER 2/3 (fallback only):** metadata/trait-dependent glitches, and anything needing FILE EXAMINATION (XMP re-saves, byte structure, timing-delay bytes).

## CONFIRMED ANCHORS (pin these in candidate elevens)
- **#357 "Shy skullGAN", essence `seed`** — over-determined 6 ways (the collector's eye ×2, both color metrics, montage no-match, essence literally `seed`). Ghost color-gradient glitch (yellow where green/cyan expected). Dim 4. Almost certainly one of the eleven.
- **#512 "Quantum glitchGAN", essence `final`** — only Dimension-11 piece, GANg is redacted `xxxxxGAN`, mint 662 (last). Pinned to the LAST word slot.

## CONFIRMED GLITCHES (byte/structural, verified)
- **Splice/reinsertion** (Fibonacci-backwards gaps): #7,43,67,71 (ground truth) + montage-frozen #19,31,37,73,244. All are "Shimmer" pieces (still-shape whose splice breaks the stillness).
- **Negative-frame**: #231,256,274,479 (#256 double-inverted).
- **Timing holds**: #479 (frame 27), #480 (frame 24) — single 100ms frame in a 0ms file. Browser-invisible.
- **Identity/dupe**: #14 = byte-copy of #75 (wears flaming art); #390 double-minted (slots 519+583).
- **Label swap**: #150 ↔ #179 (exchange labels, misfit collapses).
- **Name/metadata**: #191 `err0r`, #404 "Not Found", #73 "Gltich", #16/#100 "Primoridal", #205 "spookyGan", #465/#466 hex-radix, chain-name corruptions.

## KEY CLASSES DISCOVERED (candidate pools)
- **Type-rule-breakers (20, all 6 drops)** — a piece failing to be what its type declares IS a glitch: #281 (glitchGAN that doesn't glitch), wrong-art (#14,92,150,179,204,231,423,478,490,491,509,511), wrong-drop (#175,187,191,206), naga/twin (#181,192). `type_rule_breakers.json`.
- **Wrong-creature-for-drop (20)** — rare GANg/species in its drop: skull{5,8,13,89}, robo{130,131,137,145}, sol{209,300}, ghost{327,407}, review{465,466,479,480,497,507,511,512}. Dims cover 2,4,5,6,7,8,11. OPEN, unswept — needs narrowing to 11. `wrong_creature.json`.
- **Non-BIP-39 essences (exactly 3)**: #191 err0r, #363 TRUE, #473 FALSE (computational/boolean; TRUE/FALSE a pair).
- **Meta/self-referential essences** (Act-1 layer, ghost+review, ~19): seed/random/final/crack/code/key/solve/hidden/unlock/swap/etc. Robo's meta-density is EXPLAINED by its own solved clue-sentence puzzle — DISCOUNT robo. Held as on-theme sanity-check + possible scattered instruction.
- **Deliberate PAIRS**: day/night #209/#300, beige #479/#480, scanline #489/#491, sine-flash #130/#133, painted-numbers #165/#207, boolean TRUE/FALSE.
- **Per-drop glitch MEDIUM map**: skull=frame splices, robo=born leet/palindrome, spooky=name/metadata, solstice=inversion/negative, ghost=COLOR gradient + #390 double-mint, review=timing. Each drop glitches its OWN way — the eleven likely MIXES types across drops.

## THE SUDOKU / DIMENSIONS APPROACH (the collector's leading structural idea)
Dimensions trait values = {2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11} (NO 1,9,10). Hypothesis: the eleven's Dimensions give a partial word-ORDER — 8 distinct-dim pieces pin to positions 2–8 & 11, three "wild" pieces fill deduced gaps at positions 1,9,10. FORCES a dimension-distinct, cross-drop, mixed-type set. Tight slots: Dim11={512}; Dim7={487,507}; Dim8={129,130,141,161}; Dim2={67,71}; #357=Dim4. Loose: Dim3, Dim5 (ranked in `theories/dim_slot_ranking.md`). **SET-1** (best-constructed: {14,67,141,207,231,357,479,480,507,511,512}) swept NEGATIVE. SET-2/3/4 + G1-hedge specified in `theories/theory_iteration_2026-08-26.md`, not yet swept.

## WHAT'S RULED OUT (don't repeat) — see spreadsheet + `confirmed_glitch_registry.md`
Essence, wordlist[GAN/GAN-1/mint/mint-1], frame-index pointers, literal-`random` 12th (all 81k historical sets), montage six-sets, leet-eleven, Fibonacci-as-number, re-save-session elevens, inversion-12, rainbow-11, timing-11, identity-corruption-11, per-drop prefix elevens, signature-violator-11, dimension-distinct SET-1, color-backward-11 (all registers incl. self-hue), feeling-11, morai-11. Montage channel fully closed (every tile = own art). Letter-census negative. Sprite-naming & painted-words demoted.

## OPEN / NEXT MOVES (Tier-1 first)
1. **Wrong-creature list → narrow to 11 and sweep** (the collector deciding the narrowing: truly-singular species / one-per-drop / reconcile with #357). Dims nearly form a ready Sudoku pool.
2. **SET-2/3/4 + extraction variants** from the Iterator's file (true-class swaps, hidden-number indices).
3. **Hidden painted numbers** #165 (`8941`) and #207 (`#4`) — a channel nothing else can see; may index the wordlist. Hunt for more.
4. **the collector's annotation walk-through** (`annotate512.html`) — his eye is the instrument; his no-glitch list is a hard negative filter.
5. **Cross-both-axes eleven** — visual (the collector) + structural (byte) barely overlap; the answer likely unions them.

## STARTING POINT FOR THE NEW SESSION
Sweeps this session all negative. The strongest LIVE leads are the **wrong-creature narrowing** and **cross-axis (visual+structural) eleven**, both anchored on #357 + #512, mint order, Tier-1 first. Bring the collector's eye in early — every breakthrough this session came from it.
